In 2005, Edison R&D Center, the only R&D center named after the great inventor Thomas Edison, started to explore the Chinese market. Edison (Ningbo) R&D Sub-center was established in Cooper (Ningbo) in 2009.The sub-center has introduced the world’s leading embedded technology, control technology and permanent magnet technology developed by Cooper, which improves the company’s capacity of innovating and leading the medium-voltage switchgear field dramatically. The Company has developed a new generation of intelligent switchgear assembly.

Cooper (Ningbo) participated in formulation and publication of 17 national standards, 6 industrial standards, 1 group standard and 2 State Grid enterprise standards, including 8 national standards, 4 industry standards and 1 group standard under formulation. Besides focusing on annual product planning and rolling development strategy, we also explore R & D of high-tech products with independent IPRs based on our R & D experience of 12 kV, 24 kV, 40.5 kV high-voltage switchgears. We lay emphasis on technical accumulation and product reserves and further upgrade our original products based on the requirements for intelligent, highly reliable, maintenance free, environmental, low-cost high-voltage transmission and distribution field. We replace the old products and processes with new ones to make our products more novel and environmentally friendly so that they can cater our market demands better and enhance our brand awareness.

At present, the company has a number of core technologies such as fixed pole, timely power-off control circuit of circuit-breaker, intelligent miniaturized switchgear, and 29 utility model patents, design patents and invention patents. Several new products developed by the company independently are superior to rivals’ products in domestic market in terms of technology and market share. Many products have filled in the gap of China’s electric power industry, and listed as the national key new products, ensuring power grid transformation toward a world’s leading level.
